Asia bucket list destinations
I’ve always had quite a long list of Asia bucket list destinations. As a continent it is so big, and so varied. I’d discover every bit of it if we were able to, from the beautiful emptiness of Mongolia to the hustle and bustle of India (as well as everything in-between, and left and right!)
India
I mention a land above the clouds later in my list, but Cherrapunji in the state of Meghalaya, almost seems to permanently be in the clouds. In this area you find amazing waterfalls and living bridges – made by training the roots of growing trees to cross ravines. While in India I’d also love to explore off the beaten track and eat like the locals do.
Azerbaijan
Baku looks amazing, almost like a mix of Paris and Dubai. Out of the city the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape looks worth exploring, as well as the mud volcanoes within the wider Gobustan Reserve (which is home to nearly half of the mud volcanoes in the world).
Japan
Probably quite an obvious choice with so much culture and great food. Seeing the Cherry Blossom in Kyoto has been on my list for years and I’d also like to explore the islands of Okinawa.
Turkmenistan
The Gates of Hell gas crater and the architecture in Ashgabat make Turkmenistan quite high on my list.
Nepal
Walking in the Himalayas would be such a good way to spend some time, I often find that mountains are as exciting as the coast.
Jordan
Petra and Wadi Rum…both look spectacular.
Cambodia
Angkor Wat is the main attraction here for me, and the floating villages on Tonlé Sap.
Singapore
We have spoken so many times about the Singapore Grand Prix. I’d love to attend this and stay in the Marina Bay Sands hotel – one day!
Oman
The Musandam Peninsula is known as the Omani Lake District, it looks stunning! Desert camping and Giant Trevally fishing on the Oman coast don’t look too bad either.
Indonesia
I saw a ‘true size’ map recently that overlaid the Indonesian islands over the USA…Indonesia was bigger east to west! There seems to be so much variety. From the hustle and bustle of Jakarta to the stunning natural beauty of the Raja Ampat Islands to the orangutans on Borneo…so much to see. I’d also really like to visit some of the geological features. Indonesia is home to multiple active volcanoes and you can visit Lake Toba. Lake Toba is the largest crater lake in the world and the eruption that formed it changed the climate of the world for years.
Vietnam
Food, food and more food! Vietnam is high on the list and is even more appealing now after visiting Thailand.
Uzbekistan
I’d like to visit Tashkent, the mix of modern and traditional there looks incredible.
The next continent is Europe, see this bucket list here.
