North America bucket list destinations

There’s so much variety in my North America bucket list destinations – from the frozen north to the tropical south. Just within the USA you can see pretty much every landscape that the world has to offer, amazing when you think about it!

USA

Alaska appeals for its isolation, quietness and the totally different way of life. The people always appear so hardy and resilient too.

Canada

There is so much more to see in Canada than the small part we spent a couple of weeks exploring. I’d love to discover the mountains & crystal clear lakes in the Rockies and the wildlife in British Columbia. Pingualuit crater in Quebec really interests me, it is an almost perfectly circular crater lake which is one of the deepest lakes in North America. Because the sides are raised above the surrounding land the lake is only topped up by rain or snow. It is one of the clearest and purest bodies of water in the world due to this.

Mexico

The seas surrounding Baja California Sur are home to so much life. They have insanely good fishing and are one of the best places in the world to see whales up close.

Costa Rica

Full of volcanoes and one of the largest concentrations of wildlife variety in the world. Costa Rica has been on the list for so long and still hasn’t happened!

Cuba

We’ve been once but I’d love to go again and see more of local life (and drink more rum).

Turks and Caicos

Another British Overseas Territory, another amazing looking destination. Fishing here for bonefish looks like such good sport.

Greenland

It always feels like Greenland should be part of Europe (it sort of is both politically and culturally) but it does sit on the North American tectonic plate. I’d stay at Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat – from here you can watch icebergs making their way through the Ilulissat Icefjord after calving from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. This glacier is one of the fastest moving in the world at around 40m a day; I’d love to hear the noise it makes.

The next continent is South America, see this bucket list here.
