Europe bucket list destinations

I find it too easy to overlook Europe when thinking of bucket list destinations. Maybe it is growing up here (which is even more noticeable with the total lack of UK destinations on the below list!). I think you just get used to your immediate area and don’t see the beauty in it so much – long haul always seems more rock and roll! There are some amazing bucket list destinations in Europe, my top ones are listed here however this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Norway

Discovering Svalbard has been on the list for years – it’s so remote (as well as being a great place to see polar bears and the northern lights)

Faroe Islands

The remoteness appeals to me here, and the scenery looks stunning.

Spain

Been there, done that…but there is so much more to see! Galicia (the home of Albariño wine) looks rugged, lush and is so appealing. Bull running in Pamplona (from a distance…more watching other people doing it), San Sebastián, there is so much more of Spain to discover.

Portugal

Nazaré has undersea features that lead to it being home to some of the biggest waves in the world. In 2024 someone surfed a 26m high wave and entered the Guinness Book of Records for the highest wave ever surfed. Seeing this in person would be amazing, all without getting wet or going too near the ridiculously high waves.

Germany

The stone formations in the Saxon Switzerland National Park are so different and would make a great stop off in the motorhome. In the Eifel region, the crater lake of Pulvermaar is around 74m deep and was formed around 20,000 years ago. This lake is almost a perfect circle and would be great to see. I think I’d need to get a drone to be able to appreciate it from above too!

Italy

The Italian lakes look picture perfect, spending a week around the water while drinking Italian wine sounds great.

Switzerland

I’m still taken by Switzerland. It’s the most picturesque place I’ve been to, the cleanest…and the most expensive! Apart from a few exceptions I don’t tend to aspire to revisit destinations. Switzerland is definitely one of those exceptions!

Next up is North America, see this bucket list here.
